To say supply chain management is a fluid industry is an understatement. Sudden, unexpected changes in circumstances can dramatically approach the ways companies approach their inventory, shipping and warehousing needs. Our client produces amenity travel kits for a major 1st class and business travelers. These travel kits were prepared, and plastic wrapped to include several products for the weary traveler (i.e. sleeping masks, toothbrush and toothpaste, etc.)

One of the products in the amenity kit was a small container of hand sanitizer. This hand sanitizer came from a factory which was under inspection and surveillance by the FDA. Subsequently, as a result of laboratory violations the FDA issued a black box warning on the hand sanitizer rendering the product unable to be used. As a result, more than 1,000,000 amenity kits with this hand sanitizer were rendered useless. The problem was these kits had already been shipped and on their way to the airline.
